What type of facility is Shepherds of Independence?

Shepherds is a Supportive Housing Provider. Since 2001, we have strived to served the less privileged in our community. We provide stable housing and services for over 40 mentally and/or physically disabled adults who were homeless or at risk for becoming homeless.

Are tours available?

Yes, tours are available Monday – Friday 9 am to 4 pm. During a typical tour, you will experience firsthand what the rooms look like, as well as our kitchen, living room area, library, and office area.

What services are provided?

We provide services which include three meals daily, medication over site, laundry facilities, personal budget management, and assist with case management. A few other services offered include spiritual services, housekeeping, group meetings (AA/NA), and case management.

Is there a waiting list?

We usually have several people on our waiting list, and a person is typically on this list for a few months.

How much does it cost?

The cost is based upon the applicants income. This is subject to a discussion with the administration staff.

How does the client pay their rent?

Rent is paid monthly by cash or check.

How do you apply?

They may come in and fill out an application, have it faxed to them, mailed to them, fill out the online form, and fax it to 616-732-6352.

What type of individual is eligible for this service?

Most of our residents are referred by local agencies and hospitals such as rehabilitation programs, Kent Country Community Mental Health, various court systems, human services, veterans administration, and numerous others.
